Mr. Hayford Siaw, CEO of the Ghana Library Authority, played a pivotal role as the moderator at the 23rd Italian Language Week Celebration held in Accra from October 16 to 27, 2023. Organized in collaboration with esteemed partners such as the Italian Business Association of Ghana (IBAG), Ghana Italian Women Association (GIWA), and Piccola Biblioteca Italiana, the celebration showcased the vibrant cultural exchanges between Ghana and Italy. Under the distinguished patronage of the Italian Ambassador to Ghana and Togo, Ms. Daniela d’Orlandi, and featuring renowned speakers like Professor Pierluigi Valsecchi and Prof. Matteo Grilli, the festivities included engaging activities such as a 'READ Aloud – Rodari’s Tales' session for children and a workshop titled 'Let's Colour the World with Books,' aimed at fostering a love for reading among the youth. Highlight events encompassed an open discussion on 'Publishing in Ghana and Italy Compared' at the Vidya Bookstore and a lecture on 'Italian Academics Study Ghana.' Another compelling lecture, 'Beyond Gianni Rodari’s Books,' held at the residence of the Italian Ambassador, added depth to the celebration. Ms. Daniela d’Orlandi underscored the event's significance, emphasizing its role in bridging the cultural gap between Ghana and Italy, fostering mutual appreciation for authors from both nations. This annual flagship initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to promote Italian culture globally. Guest speakers, including Giola Guerzoni and Andrea Ceccarelli, addressed challenges in finding readers and publishers in Ghana and expressed hope for increased visibility of the country's publishing industry. Mr. Hayford Siaw expressed gratitude for the opportunity to moderate a lecture by Gaia Stock, Editor at a prominent publishing group, contributing to the vibrant discourse during the Week of Italian Language celebrations.

Accra, Ghana - On June 10, 2023, Mr. Hayford Siaw, CEO of Ghana Library Authority was recognized for his incredible journey to propel Ghana to receive global recognition for its efforts in the library and books global ecosystem. This recognition came during the Obaasima Summit 2023, held at the National Theatre under the theme, "The Future Can Be Different." During the summit, Mr. Siaw shared the story of the organization's investment and growth in the network of public libraries, increasing the number of books on the shelves, as well as the introduction of various technology tools and programs to connect citizens to knowledge resources. The organization's efforts have resulted in Accra being declared as the World Book Capital, and the Ghana Library Authority was honored with the Library of the Year 2021 and the UN Public Services awards 2021 for being one of the ten most innovative public institutions.
